Welcome to IAPS !

We, the Pediatric Surgeons of India, do hereby unite to form an association titled ‘Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons’ with a view to propound, to practice, to promote, to project, and to propogate the speciality of Pediatric Surgery. We aim to render a high quality of surgical care, to foster fraternity and familial feelings amongst the members, to pursue professional practice with ethics and empathy, and to stay away from a milieu muddled with mudane materialism.

About IAPS

The history of pediatric surgery, while short in duration compared to its older sibling specialities, is still an exciting story. It has grown from a sedate start in the mid-twentieth century to rapid growth in the current millennium. The period can be divided broadly into three phases. The first phase, spanned from 1940 to 1960, followed by a consolidation in the second phase from 1960 to 1990, and then the third phase after 1990 of rapid growth and innovation.

President's message

Pediatric Surgery deals with the management of children with surgical problems. The specialty is a complete specialty, albeit underrated, but progressively gearing up to soar to newer heights. The joy and satisfaction derived from easing the sufferings of small children is immeasurable and keep us going over entire career spans. As basic understanding and technology in medicine have improved, so have our results. Most children born with congenital anomalies can now be assured of near-normal lives-both in duration and quality.

I hope that this website will grow to provide authentic and up-to-date information to our members, and, parents and the public seeking to learn about pediatric surgical conditions. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.

Secretary Message

Currently, about 250 new paediatric surgeons are trained each year throughout India. The development and maintenance of adequately trained labour is hampered by numerous obstacles. This includes problems like uneven access to training facilities across the nation, variation in training curricula among different institutions, gaps in the skill and knowledge updates of practising surgical paediatrics , and a lack of employment stability for newly graduated surgeons. But our fraternity also enjoys certain benefits, as many of our senior peers are top pediatricians who head important institutions, serve on committees that decide the nation’s medical education and public health care curricula, and train a sizable number of medical students.

Secretary Message

The Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons aims to bring together Pediatric Surgeons from around the Country, to advocate for a child’s right to safe surgery in India and abroad. Our, nearly 1900 members provide optimal surgery for children across the length and breadth of India and abroad. The IAPS promotes sharing of information, knowledge, skills and best practices amongst its members, other medical professionals and the public at large. This website will continue to function as a valuable resource to facilitate the aims and objectives of the IAPS. Please feel free to email me if you have any queries or feedback.
